Natasha’s sure that her friends love her. But does that mean they didn’t try to kill her?
Natasha doesn’t remember how she ended up in the icy water that night, but she does know this—it wasn’t an accident, and she wasn’t suicidal. Her two closest friends are acting strangely, and Natasha turns to Becca, the best friend she dumped years before when she got popular, to help her figure out what happened.
They say you should keep your friends close and your enemies closer, but when you’re a teenage girl, it’s hard to tell them apart.
First of all, let me point out that it is currently about midnight and I just finished this ARC. I am fully aware that I have to be up at 6 to start getting ready for work, but instead of heading immediately to bed I knew that I had to write the review for this one.
Secondly, I will mention that this was my very first Advance Reader Copy from Netgalley and man-o-man was it a doozy. In the very best way.
I read a lot of Young Adult fiction – probably more than a person of 30 should admit to (not that there is anything wrong with it – us YA lovers need to stick together!) – but never in my entire life have a read a YA thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat the way that this one did. It has everything – sex, drugs, alcohol, and a little bit of teen angst thrown in for good measure. It was raw and honest and I loved that so much about this book. Sarah Pinborough has a knack for getting into the head of teenage girls and making them believable. It was easy to associate Natasha, Becca, Jenny, and Hayley with girls that I went to high school with myself. Luckily, things turned out better for my versions of the characters.
In the end, I absolutely DEVOURED this book. It contained a story that had me turning pages when I probably should have been doing other things – like.. sleeping, eating, and going back to work from my lunch break on time.
The book is set to be released on October 3rd, and any of my thrill-seeking readers should jump right on it. In fact, in case you want to set up a pre-order (I STRONGLY suggest it), the amazon link is here: 13 minutes by Sarah Pinborough
This word nerd will be purchasing her own hard copy to share with her friends.
